    Hi,
Are Bettercable Silver serpent component cables decent (ie mid to better than mid range)? What would be better (within reason)?

Many good cables are built with Canare/Belden coax and the wonderful Canare RCA plugs.
The BetterCables Silver Serpent is ... different. It uses instrumentation grade coax with a silver-coated center conductor. I would classify it as nearly in the exotic/high-end catagory.
Members with 90-100+" projector displays (very sensitive) swear by these cables. They might even be considered over-kill for your progressive scan system. But if you might ever add a set-top-box that would push true HD video - BetterCables would be an outstanding choice.
For the Canare/Belden cables, try some of these sites:
    www.catcables.com
    www.heartlandcables.com
    www.bluejeanscables.com
    ebay (search for "Canare")
    www.wickedcables.com
Good Luck and let us know what you purchase and tell us your impressions.
