I bought an H/K AVR 130 and am considering returning it for the Sony because the Sony has more of the features I want. If anyone knows how the two compare in sound, please let me know.[IMG]

Hummm. I would not trade the AVR130 for any Sony DE series receiver. The HK has a much better amp and is much more musical. What feature are you needing (I guess bass management) and what speakers do you use? The Sony DB series would be closer the AVR series but still bright sounding in comparison.

You will be wasting your money going with the 995.

Dont. You'd just be trading a superior amplifier section for bell and whistles .

Take the HK, you will be very pleased with it over the Sony DE line.

Shnitz, my current setup has a HK AVR-225. It broke and I sent it to be repaired (got it back 2 days later problem fixed). For the mean-time, not knowing how long it would take, I went to CircuitCity to try out the 230 just to see what it was like. I loved the thing, and I found the looks very appealing.

    Good luck with your decision.

I got the 995 on boxing day at A&B sound in Canada for $398.00 CND not what I wanted but was a good deal for 7.1 .

    SO I thought.
Got it home wired up the Spires HT system to them which is around 88db each.
    And listened to SWAT.
Sound good but in a 20X13 room the AMP total volume on max is 75.We had the volume set at 72 to be happy at the volume we use to listen out of the Yamaha 795 I had before.
And the Yamaha never hit close to half of the volume knob.

So out it came and back it went to A&B Sound and I got the 5300 Marantz for $495.00 CND.
Still not the Yamaha 1400 I wanted but I have not found it locally.
So I settled on the 6.1 not 7.1.

Anyway stay away from the 995 go to any other reciever from HK Denon,Marantz,Yamaha

    my 2 cents

    Al

If you don't have your heart set on an HK, also throw the Onkyo TX-SR601 into the mix. It's about the same retail price as the HK230.

I see no need to turn this into a "all Sony products" are crap thread, because that is far from the truth.

It IS true you can buy more for your money than getting the Sony DE line. The DB line and ES line by Sony are much better.

I own the 995 and I'm very happy with it. I am calibrating my HT system right now, have done a little bit but haven't had a whole hour or two to spend on it. But even with the small progress I've made, it sounds awesome.
