One word I would not use to describe NAD components is 'spiffy'. Unless you are talking about their Silver Series, NAD's components are bland.
One word I would not use to describe NAD components is 'bland'. I find their compents functionally logical and classy. Admittedly, they have had some build quality issues, but the CD players are some of the most musical out there IMO, and generally very good values. I still use a 512 in my two-channel system. I have had Denon, Sony ES, and others and auditioned many much more expensive players... But for value and sound quality I would audition in the following order: NAD, AMC, Marantz, Rotel, others...

I love my 522, and I think the NAD design is really slick. Like I said, I wish they had an SACD device.
The silver series is really slick though...
