Since the last time I posted in this thread I'd picked up a few more Westerns, and one of them was The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. I agree wholeheartedly with Bill's assessment of the film. You just can't go wrong with it; excellent, excellent movie. It just might have taken over the position of being my favorite Western. The DVD is a very nice presentation, and can be had for around $10.

Thanks for the heads-up on that Making The Misfits disc, I'll have to check that out.

Shane is in the bargain bins at Walmart for $5.88. Not bad for #69 on the AFI list! Of course I picked it up.

Are there any Roy Rogers films with decent DVD transfers?

No reviews, but I noticed the The Arizona Kid was just released this month:

I've found a list Glenn Buttkus put together on Amazon of various Roy Rogers films, which includes several on DVD. Note Mr. Buttkus has 382 Listmania lists!

From the 40's:

Most are cheap as chips. Based on the few which have customer reviews it looks like most of the DVD transfers are VHS-like quality. I am sure the elements are in poor shape and no money has been spent at restoration.

Anyone with a recommendation or two?
