I don't know what the hell brought this up in my mind, but I was thinking back to how the transfer for Lawrence of Arabia on the Columbia/Tri-Star disc is "something David Lean wouldn't approve of".

It got me to thinking; what is it supposed to look like? For that matter, are there other instances in which the images on the DVD are inferior or incorrect compared to the film source print?

I might be on crack or something, but I swear the transfer on the Bridge on the River Kwai featurette looks better than the transfer on the film itself.

Or we could start doing comparisons right now. :)

Dome,

DVD's do not represent many films at its best. Lower resolution, poorer color pallette and in many "restored films" the elimination of most if not all film grain. Sound is sometimes fiddled with and made into pseudo 5.1 "stereo" and of course, the OAR is not always proper. So what else is new?

It's evident that DVD's will never capture film perfectly. I'm just asking for websites that do this comparison, with LOA being a prime example.

Of course, those frames appear on the website with much lower resolution than an image projected from film would have. So the comparison may be of limited utility.

True, but I'm intereted in the "incorrect" colors on the DVD compared to the frame.

At least I have somewhere to start. :)
