i plan on using a htpc late this year and this is what i have planned for connecting it up:
video: DVI-HDMI converter plugged into reciever.
audio: S-PDIF/toslink plugged into the reciever.
that should work best right?
i have an ATI 3870 with 1gb of ram on it which should do 1080p all day long without breaking a sweat.
the mobo has a built-in sound card which supports 5.1.
The computer itself while not cutting edge should function effortlessly as a htpc i believe, here are the specs:
chip: amd 6400x2.
mobo: msi k9a platinum.
sound: built-in.
dvd: a quick sata samsung dvd burner which will become a blu-ray burner later.
visual: ati 3870 but my mobo can support 2 of them in crossfire or 1 3870x2 if need be.
ram: 4gb OCZ crossfire ddr2 800.
cooling: fan controller for 4 case fans, hd cooler and an aftermarket cpu cooler.
network card: netgear wireless N pci adapter 300mbps wireless.
router: netgear gigabit edition 300mbps wireless router.
interface: IR kb with trackball.
HD: WD 1tb sata drive.
case: generic mid-tower.
PSU: 850w antec quattro.
OS: winxp home.
think that is it.
How much difference would there be if i sprung for a soundblaster soundcard and would it justify the expense?
