Liked the former a lot, found the later OK, can't remember much of either (certainly not the endings).

Twist beginning, maybe? I think it counts.

I'd also mention 12 Monkeys.

I could also mention Haute Tension, but many people hate that twist...

I wanted to add a few like The Wicker Man or The Parallax View, but those are really more surprise endings you don't see coming and not quite the "trick" ending that turns around everything you saw beforehand.

Some others not mentioned yet:

3 Women (Robert Altman)
Jacob's Ladder
Open Your Eyes (Abres Los Ojos) (I suppose Vanilla Sky would fit this too)
Session 9
Frailty
Lucid
Cello (if memory serves right...)
Tale Of Two Sisters

It ruins the movie! It is a total cheat and is quite unnecessary.

I can't believe no one has mentioned The Grifters.

I've seen Lantana - nice flick and the director has a similar movie coming out this year.

Thanks for mentioning Performance - can't wait for the new DVD.

NINE QUEENS
MILLION DOLLAR BABY.....at least for me.

I'm sure there are others. I just can't recall them.

Dear Frankie. Just when I thought I knew for sure exactly what type of movie it was going to be, it became something else entirely. Same for Million Dollar Baby.

I've never seen Soylent Green. Anyone care to give a brief synopsis?

I don't consider the plot change in Million Dollar Baby a twist.

Dystopian future of haves and have nots where food is scarce for the general population. Good Sci-Fi flick in the same vein as Omega Man, which also stars Heston.

I got in on this thread late. Fun stuff!

I thought I was going to get to be the first to drop "Primal Fear" one of my faves, but I see it was finally brought up. I also agree on:

The Others
Sixth Sense
Usual Suspects
The Village (I see M Night on many people's list :))

I have to run but I'll quickly throw in Just Cause . Great Twist in that one.

More Later....

So what would you call it? The film started as a typical boxing flick and seemed to be following the tried and true path that those types of films always seem to follow. All of a sudden it completely changed and took off in another direction and the ending became completely atypical for that type of film. I would call that a twist because the film took off in an unexpected direction.

What significance? That Joan Allen was so paranoid and bitter her husband laid dying out in the back yard for several days and that her children didn't blame her for it after they found out(especially since they were bitter people just like her)?

Just thought of another one - Y tu mamá también - I *really* didn't see that one coming!
