I think that the VMPS RM1's are about that price. If I was looking in that range, that's what I'd get.

    Size of room?
volume levels at which you listen?
    percentage of HT To music?
    type of music?
    type of amplification?
where will they be placed in room?
describe "nature" of room acoustical challenges...
    hard floors?
    windows? tapestrys?

If you think you could build a kit speaker Adire's Kit281 will come well within that budget and has been praised very highly by those who have built it. Not factoring in the price advantage, those who have heard them have liked them more than the Paradigm Studio100 and one guy even preferred it to a B&W Nautilus 804.

With that size of a room and open, you may want to take a look at the Mirage OM line, I have the OM-5's and love them for the room filling smooth sound.
There is a guy at Audiogon that has some great deals at this time, Full warranty, but when they are gone he will not have any more, He is changing lines.
look up user Eptac, Sam is his name, he has the OM-7's and OM-9's at -50%. full waranty. I have purchased from him,
Both my OM-C2 center and OM-R2 surrounds, they arrived as NEW, Authorized to sell Mirage, Mirage is also one of very few speakers that have a 5 year transferable warranty.
    Maybe worth a look.
He had some gloss black OM-5's at $2k that sold very fast.
But the OM-7's and 9's are also very nice.

PSB Stratus Silveri's would work extremely well and can be had for that or a little less (authorized). I run them with a Denon 5803 with great results.... movies and music.

Wonderful sound, top-end build quality, beautiful fit and finish with a great bang-for-the-buck factor. They are sweet sounding speakers! I love mine.

Is there anything out there that outperforms the klipsch rf7's for the same price or maybe less? I love how strong of a punch they have but I also want something with overall sound quality.

My buddy just bought from reliableaudiovideo.com. They treated him really well, Called him to let him know they appreciated his business and the ship date for a pair of PSB Image 7PT's (powered towers). He got what i thought was a pretty good deal.
