Looks like I may need to replace it. I've seen suggestions for the Velodyne VX-10, which I am considering but I didn't see it at my local stores. Should I keep looking for the Velodyne, or are there others that are better or just as good?

Not sure how you feel about Ebay/used, but I've recently acquired a pair of outstanding Boston VR500 subs for $150 and $170. I saw one go without bids a couple of days ago just because the owner didn't offer a PayPal buying option. I have seen the same sub in questionable condition go for $300 recently. Brand new in 1999/2000 that sub was $600. You just have to watch the new auctions as they are listed and be patient. This is not a common sub and I found two in perfect shape within 4 weeks time. Also subs from a good manufacturer like Velodyne or Boston should be durable enough to last for years to come.

There's a brand-new Velodyne VX-10 on ebay now for $150 at the moment with 5 days left.

    Good Luck,
    Brian

I'm not too shy from eBay, though my problem is that this past sub was only a year old when it broke. Now I don't have any warrentee or anything.

Foogle it and you should be able to find a few places that are selling it for $149 + shipping.

6ave.com used to have it for $149 + $.06 shipping. Call them and see if they have any left.

The price seems good but they may not be a Velodyne Authorized dealer. You are best to contact Velodyne and find out.

I had the VX-10 in my system for about a week before I returned it. It's a great little sub and I found it really added another dimension to movies and music. However, I felt it was a little lacking for my large concrete room. At only 100 watts rms, I could hear it begin struggling at medium-high volumes.

In the end, I felt the price paid did not equal the performance received. Here in Canada, the VX-10 is about $475-$500 CAD dollars plus tax. I think for the price you paid, $208 USD, it's a good purchase as long as it works with your room acoustics.

I have the VX-10 currently, and could not be happier with it, all things considered. For a small living room in a townhouse it is awesome!

Bought it on sale before Christmas for $299 Cdn, and at that price, I could not find anything else that sounded near as smooth, or blended near as well.

I agree though, that for the current price of $500, I'd go a different direction.

crap, I just got this email from downtownaudio:

    "Hello,
We're sorry but, your order has been cancelled.
We do not have your product in our current inventory.
If there is something else you may be interested in,
    please call me at 1-888-xxx-xxx.
Thank you for your business, "

So, is there a better one to get for this price somewhere?
