OK - Here's what I am doing.

I have home theater upstairs with a speaker line running to the living room downstairs.

I want a pair of unobtrusive bookshelves on stands in the living room tied to the receiver upstairs through a remote control repeater.

So, I am looking for a good sounding sub $500 pair of bookshelves for that purpose.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

For the money, I really like the Athena Audition series. Great bang for the buck. AS-B1.2 or AS-B2.2 . They have either 5 1/2" or 6 1/2" mids, respectively, accompanied by a 1" teteron dome tweeter.

The Ascend 170's will be tough to beat sub $500.
Athena not in same league by a long shot.
They are great at their price point of about $100/pait, but in no way can compare to the Ascends.

I agree with Mikey about the Ascend 170's. If you ever upgrade to a separate amp for that room, consider going with a used pair of Paradigm Studio v.2 20's. A used pair can be had for around $500.00 and they are stunning when properly amplified.

I also wouldn't overlook the used market. You could pick up something that sold for more $$ a few years ago and are now within your budget.
