I am thinking to buy two speaker systems for my new DVD player and PC.

2.1 Speaker System for my PC
5.1 Speaker System for my DVD Player

The brands that I am interested are Creative and Altec Lansing.

Could anyone give me some recommendation of which brands and model should I go for? and approximately price.

    Thank you!!

    Benny

Without a price limit (budget), brands and models are unlimited.

Any particular reason with choosing Creative and Altec Lansing?

Check out Cambridge Soundworks for some good selections. I beleive this is a Creative owned company.

    Good luck,
    James

Budget. Otherwise we can't give any real recommendations. I can easily recommend speakers for 200bucks, or 20,000.

Below is a link to my computer speakers.

The receiver is a second hand ($50.00) JVC.

The speakers are from KLH. ($30.00)

So for the price of a bottom of the line computer speaker system, I have a receiver and speakers that turn my PC into a true stereo system.

The KLH are better than all tiny computer speakers I've heard and if I ever tend to get serious about my system, I will take out the JVC and add my Dared 2000A tube preamp ($250.00)and put in some second hand Paradigms or something of the sort.

Going with computer speakers are a waste unless you don't have the space for home speakers of course.

Thank you for all your information guys!!

As I am living in UK, the price will be different from US.

My budget for 5.1 is GBP 100 and 2.1 is GBP 30.

The 2.1 speaker uses on my PC is for game and mp3 purpose. Unfortunately, I do not have the 5.1 sound card on my PC.

The DVD Player is hooked up with my home theatre which I decide to attach a 5.1 speaker systems with it.

The reason for choosing the Altec Lansing and Creative is that they are both well known in the Speaker market. In addition, I have got the discount voucher of those two brands.

i have the klipsch 5.1 and its *OK*

don't get me wrong, they sounds pretty good, and were super easy to set up. but when the system is ON (volume independant) there is a consistent background static. BUT, once the volume is up just a bit, the static is overwhelmed by the sound, which I think the speakers perform pretty well (for a computer 5.1 system).

if you are watching movies without alot of activity though, the static is a little distracting...

I have the Creative 7.1 surround speakers. They only cost me about $60 and they sound fantastic. I used to have Altec Lansing 4.1 surrounds, these Creative speakers kill them.

I've heard those Altecs. They sound decent. The bass is pretty good for just a 6" woofer.

For your computer I would recomend ether Klipsch or Creative. And for your 5.1 system I would recomend Klipsch, Polk, Boston or Infinity. It all depends on your budget. I would use SVS for your subs though. There is also a company called SLS that sounds really good. I came across those at CES in Las Vegas this past January. Here is the link for SLS http://www.slsloudspeakers.com
I hope that helps in some way [IMG]
