Has anyone tested the different CD-R brands to see if they sound any different? Or if discs recorded at 24x sound different than those recorded at 1x?

I haven't had a chance to compare the expensive discs head to head with the cheap ones, but haven't noticed that the cheap discs sounding poor.

I don't know about sound quality, but many have noted that discs recorded at speeds higher than 4x sometimes have playback errors, possibly with certain brands of CD players.

I have used a number of different colors and prices for CDRs, and I have had no problems or sound quality issues thus far.

I doubt different CDs will produce a huge difference in sound...

Though one word of warning: DO NOT GET MEMOREX CDRs with the blue dye... I bought a 50 pack, and used them all, ubt after a couple months, 10% of them have started peeling with normal handling!

I take it you complained to the manufacturer, no?
Over at www.tomshardware.com you'll find a review of burners. There was one model whose CD's sounded different although the real reasons for it are unclear as far as I know.
