I had been thinking,if the directors of film would join in the mastering process of a film to DVD,the presentation quality could be far more impressive than we thought.
One of the example,is HANNIBAL.Without RIDLEY SCOTT,i don't think people would be enjoying the spooky DTS track of the film.
The extras can still be done by the other professionals...VAN LING...
The main feature should be supervised by the director...JAMES CAMERON(T2:U.E),RIDLEY SCOTT(HANNIBAL,GLADIATOR...),etc...

As stipulated by DGA contract, the director of any film must be notified prior to the (initial) video transfer and he/she or their designee can supervise the transfer if they choose. Most do.
What is rarely talked about is that there are more than a few directors that don't know dick about video or the art of a film-to-video transfer.
BTW, Yang, I'm curious. Is that DTS track on Hannibal spookier than the Dolby track?

As I noted parenthetically, I think the DGA contract covers the first transfer of a film. I am not certain of this detail, which is why I noted it the way I did. On the other hand, if MGM used existing video elements, as you surmise, then no notification would be required.

    I suspected as much. [IMG]

Just a thought...aside from the director being involved with the transfer, it can be beneficial to have the director of photography and sound designer in on it, too. They're likely to be more in tune with the tech side of things.
