ok i know i am going to get alot of different opnions here.( might be a good thing)
i am looking to spend 3-4k on a pre amp. what are my best choices. please not the b&k ref 50 as i have it 2 months and its going back. ( went back to b&k 2 times already), not reliable for 2,500 balloons. frank

I think that you'll find a lot of people are very satisfied with their anthem avm 20 v2.1...

I suppose a lot may depend on what you feel is lacking with the Ref50, and your expectations are for a new HT processor.

Frank, you're talking about prepros - not preamps. A preamp won't do any decoding.

Other highly recomend units would include...

    Rotel RSP-1098
    Rotel RSP-1068 (due out shortly)
    Anthem AVM20
Lexicon MC8 (or MC12 if you have the $$$)
Sherwood has a new pre amp coming out...

I own the Rotel 1098 and highly recomend it but the others listed are also fine processors and worthy of an audition.

The Theta Casanova though it's a little bit above your budget but much better than the B&K IMO.

I'd recommend the Anthem AVM 20 since it is quite versatile plus upgradeable via software implementation. Excellent performer.
