My OEM receiver just crapped out. :) Yay! That means I now have an excuse to upgrade to HDTV!
I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to buy the Toshiba DST-3000, or any other similar brands/models.

You can find the DST300 for about $550 at a number of places in Yahoo Shopping. Just search for DST3000.

The DST3100 will be out in the 4th quarter.

What are they changing on the new model?

I've seen that most manufacters are changeing their Direct TV STB's this year.

In fact I was under the impression that the new models were coming out in July, although I can't find an ounce of info on any of them anywhere.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for information on the next generation of Direct TV HDTV STB's?

Well, I just found out that my round dish needs to be replaced with an oval one with at least 2 LNBs, to get HDTV. Darn, guess I have to get a satellite *system* now. Anyone know any good deals for a HDTV Sat System?

I'm going to try to use a second dish to het the HDTV channels rather than replacing the dish I have - all the HDTV is on the 119 satellite, yes?

2 dishes? Hmmm I guess that'll work too. For me I'm thinking if I could put it on one dish then why not since the dish cost should be peanuts.

Yes, I believe the HDTV sat is on 119. Elsewhere on this forum I've learned that Showtime HD will be on 110. Maybe I should get a triple LNB dish for 109, 110, and 119 sats?

Showtime on 110? Guess maybe I'll have to get an oval dish too. I've always suspected they would be a nightmare to aim, having to align 3 axes rather than 2.

Yes, I have heard they are a pain in the butt to aim, and I also heard the new Discovery and History HDTV channels will be on the new third satellite, so you will need the elliptical dish with three doo-hickies on it.

But as for the new specs on the STB's, I haven't heard anything other than they will likely have a DVI port on them.

Will the DVI port mean that STB's without them will at some point no longer receive true HDTV signals? Or should I buy an older one so I don't need the DVI port on my HDTV to view programing?

I hate to spend $500 on a STB that may be obsolete three weeks after I get the thing installed. And the fact that I can even get a Hughes HDTV STB including the elliptical dish and installation for just under $500 makes me wonder why they are dumping them so cheap right now.

By the way, I have also heard that they are doing another complete card swap, and will soon be eliminating the Hu signal.

Could this new card have anything to do with the ability to limit availability of HDTV signal reception on boxes without DVI ports?
