Welcome to my Best Performance Tournament Part II featuring Ed Harris.
An intense actor with an air of quiet strength, Ed Harris has delivered many fine performances over the years. Strong-willed yet fallible characters seem to be his forte, though he handles any role capably. He recently directed and starred in the acclaimed film Pollock.
This will be a 16-film tourney. Everyone gets two nominations, two seconds, and two thirds. I've already seeded the list with some obvious choices as well as throwing out some nominations of my own.
    The List
    1. [*]The Abyss[*]Apollo 13[*]A Beautiful Mind[*]Enemy at the Gates[*]The Firm[*]Glengarry Glen Ross[*]Needful Things[*]Pollock[*]The Right Stuff[*]The Rock[*]The Truman Show

    Nominations
    Absolute Power
    Alamo Bay*
    Knight Riders
    Nixon
    The Prime Gig
    The Stand*
    State of Grace
    Sweet Dreams
    The Third Miracle

Nominated films marked with as asterisk have been seconded and are in need of a third.
Special note: if someone wants to nominate his performance in Waking the Dead, I don't have a problem with it. Of course, that performance has been relegated to a single deleted scene on the DVD release so keep that in mind.

    Nominations:
The Prime Gig - Rent this movie. It's not brilliant, but I had fun with it.
Needful Things - Another somewhat muddled flick that I still enjoyed. It's worth seeing for Ed Harris and JT Walsh* alone.
    Seconds:
Enemy at the Gates - Damn good flick, damn good (smallish) role for the ever-cool Mr. Harris.
(Note to myself: I have one 2nd and two 3rds remaining.)
*I'm doing a JT Walsh tournament. Steve has inspired me.

    I second
    Needful Things
I think, an all-out Donald Pleasence tourney would be cool...

Oh boy, I've gone back into Tournament Mode after a long absence. I have to get in on this one just so I can
    NOMINATE:
State of Grace - with Sean Penn and Gary Oldman, plus Robin Wright Penn, John Turturro, and John C. Reilly, music by Ennio Morricone. To steal a line from an IMDB comment (because I'm lazy), "Ed Harris is very good as a rather sleazy, wanna-be Irish crime boss desperately trying to cut a deal with the Italian mob".
Sweet Dreams - plays Charlie Dick, husband of Jessica Lange's Patsy Cline.
I just realized that while I've seen everything on The List, I haven't seen most of the other nominations, except for...
    SECOND:
    Alamo Bay
Which means I need to put his name into my Tivo.
(I also liked his roles in Under Fire, Places In The Heart, A Flash of Green and Swing Shift. He is such a good actor!)

Someone tell me they've seen Knight Riders! This movie needs to be in the tourney as it features Harris in his first starring role. It's on DVD and well worth checking out. [IMG]

Damn, slow day yesterday. Anyway, keep those noms, seconds, and thirds coming. [IMG]
BTW, if you have suggestions for actors I could use in further installments, let me know. I'll be doing Steve Martin next, then Michael Douglas. After that, I'm not sure. Pacino and DeNiro are shoe-ins, so no need to suggest those two. [IMG]

Well, I guess Ed Harris isn't as popular as I thought he was. [IMG] Should I let this one fade away?

Ed Harris is popular, but he's not really a lead actor.
