I'm building a new htpc to run DVDs, some games, slideshows, etc. I'm using a XP21N projector with a Denon 5800 with Dish6000 HDTuner. Here's the PC hardware I have so far:

MSI 845 Ultra mobo

256mb DDRAM

Pentium IV 1.6ghz

IBM 60gb 7200 HD

Radeon 7500 64mb DDR

Midiman Audiophile soundcard

Liteon 163 CDROM

Dlink NIC

IRman

(getting capture card - WinTV PVR? )

What OS should I install? I was going to go Win98SE because of its compatibility and my comfort level. But would ME, 2K, or XP be better for this use? Any comments about the hardware I'm using would be appreciated as well.

XP or 2000 will work fine for most of your hardware (not sure about your soundcard).

98SE would be a third runner up; it's a good OS, as long as you keep the computer uncluttered. But 98SE is also more crash prone, less secure, and less feature-filled.
