Heys guys, going to Vegas for the first time! But I'll be there for 4 days, and figured we'd catch a movie or two to keep from spending all my money. Anyone know of a really good theater out there (sound, niceness, etc)? Thanks for any help!

you still will find a slot machine in the lobby!
A couple of other ideas:
I went to a minor league hpckey game there and had a good time, they have a minor league baseball team there.
Hoover Dam is pretty cool
also the UFO highway is there, we rented a convertable and drove to the Lil Alien Inn for the hell of it
Fun and different
Have fun and I hope you win some

I'll admit right away that I don't know anything about the movie theatres in Vegas.

But I'm here for another reason - you must see the Blue Man Group, at the Luxor Hotel. It's the one shaped like a pyramid.

The Blue Man Group is the most incredible show I've ever seen in my life. I've never seen anything that can touch it in terms of creativity and general amazement.

Please see it if you're in Vegas! It was the highlight of my trip.

Grant, I don't know when the last time you were here in Vegas, but the minor league hockey team we had is now gone. They've been gone for quite a while now. ;) We still have our minor league baseball team (The '51s), but they suck. :D

But getting back on topic, I think the best movie theater in this city is the Brendan Theaters inside the Palms (http://www.brendantheaters.com). It's a 14 screen theater with nice big screens and comfortable seats. Two other theaters I would recommend are the Century Orleans 18 (inside the Orleans Hotel and Casino) and the Century Suncoast 16 (inside the Suncoast Hotel and Casino). If you're coming out to Vegas within the next week or two, you could also catch a showing of The Matrix Reloaded at the Luxor IMAX theater.

I'll agree with Bob, the Blue Man Group is a great show to see. I also recommend Mamma Mia at the Mandalay Bay (which is right next door at the Luxor). There's always the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead (just don't swim in it), and you could go look around all the many casinos. :)

My wife and I were in Vegas about 6-7 weeks ago. We caught "Matrix Reloaded" at a theater right on (or just off?) Las Vegas BLVD (the strip).

I don't remember the name of the theater - but it was pretty much a dive :)

My gripes: No stadium seating and the screen was bent outwards in one corner.

But it was AIR CONDITIONED, and that's all that mattered on that day, as it was 107F if I remember correctly.

Should have went to the Palms to the theater there.

Thanks guys! I think we'll catch the Blue Man Group. I hear nothing but good things about the shows. We are getting there this Thursday, so I'll be sure and catch Reloaded on IMAX. That sound be great! Thank you guys for the replies! Vegas here I come!

Too bad about the hockey team, come to think of it, they were in the IHL and the league went belly up. Thanks for setting me straight.
Just curious, In San Francisco there are tons of walking tours, some connected to the movies shot here.
Is there a "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas Tour" following the steps of Hunter S Thompson ????
I'd do that in a second.... I guess they would leave out the Ether part...

If you are staying on the strip, head down Tropicana Road WEST, and go to the theaters at the Orleans hotel. They have large screens with stadium seating and great sound equipment. (I think they have some smaller theaters as well, for longer running shows)

Those are the nicest theaters that are closest to the strip. You will probably need to take a taxi if you haven't rented a car.

Most movie theaters in Vegas are in hotel/casinos. The ones at Texas Station are also nice but not near the strip (Rancho & Lake Mead). They have something like 4 or 5 theaters with stadium seating.

IMHO: Skip the movies.

There are so many cheap or free things to do and see in Vegas, I'd just save the movies for home. You could spend 4 days there and not see everything.

If you're out of ideas to fill up your time, but Frommers Las Vegas 200? for the price of a movie ticket or two and read it on the way. If the "Vegas attractions" don't excite you, there's always the excellent people-watching.
