I figure since Valentine's Day is coming upon us, I'd start a best love song thread. What defines a love song? Well, think of Dr. Julius Hibbert from The Simpsons. It's the love between a man and a woman (or in Rain's case the love between a man and a man). Well, you get the point.
Any HTF member can nominate up to two songs (list artist as well please). The only qualification is that it's a love song (between two people), and it must've been made before the 80's. The song only requires somebody to second it once. A song that wouldn't qualify would be One Love by Bob Marley and the Wailers. It's a love song, but not really between two people. I'm going to try and have at least 64 entries in this tournament.
Please correct me if I have a song in this tournament that was made after 1980.
Here are the current entries in the tournament.
We've Got Tonight by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band
All My Loving by The Beatles
Your Song by Elton John
Words by Bee Gees
Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton
Just the Way Your Are by Billy Joel
Even the Nights Are Better by Air Supply
If by Bread
Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce
Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede
Love Me, Tender by Elvis
Without You by Nilsson
Dream Weaver by Gary Wright
Peaceful, Easy Feeling by The Eagles
Just You 'n' Me by Chicago
Slowhand by Pointer Sisters
When A Man Loves A Woman by Percy Sledge
Lady by Kenny Rodgers
What's Your Name? by Lynnard Skynnard
Whole Lotta Love by Led Zepplin
More Than a Feeling by Boston
Layla by Derek and the Dominos
Feel Like Making Love by Bad Company
Lost in Love by Air Supply
Baby I Love Your Way by Peter Frampton
Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues *
I Only Have Eyes for You by The Flamingos *
* - new entries in tournament
I can't think of anymore right off the top of my head, my brain is starting to hurt. I'm pretty sure I'll be slapping my forehead once somebody nominates something "obvious". And yes, I'm only 21, and I love all these songs. :b

I'd nominate You're In My Heart by Rod Stewart, but if you examine the lyrics closely it's acutally a love song to a soccer team, so it doesn't qualify. :)
I can't do Martha, My Dear by the Beatles because that's love between a man and his sheepdog :)
Since Layla is in there, I'm assuming it's OK to include extra-marital love (that's a song about love between a man and his best friend's wife), so I'll nominate
All the Girls Love Alice - Elton John (love between a young girl and a number of married women)
Something - Beatles (how boring: love between a man & his wife)
I hope somebody nominates some Al Green.

Dome, do you really consider the following love songs? I think both of them are strictly about sex (not love). ;)
Led Zeppelin: Whole Lotta Love
Lynyrd Skynyrd: What's Your Name

I don't think this quite meets the criteria but I think the best slow song of the 70s is Kansas - Dust In The Wind.

Good nominations. All the other songs need is for somebody to second them. I miss any nominations, remind me.

Well, I certainly don't necessarily equate the two as one and the same. Basically, I was going for the most broad definition of love between two people. But having both love and sex certainly doesn't hurt either. :D

To Micheal Hein
- I love "Dust in the Wind", but I'm not quite sure if it is a love song or not. If somebody can come up with a convincing argument, I'd be more than happy to add it to the nomination list.
Unlike the other tournaments being hosted, I'm encouraging everybody to get their friends to participate, even if it means "back scratching" deals.
