I got this idea from listening to a sports talk show--they started by asking who was the best athlete to wear the number "1" then went on to number "2" etc. I thought it would be fun to change it slightly for dvds. If it catches on, we'll go on to do the rest of the alphabet, maybe on a weekly basis.

So, what's the best dvd in your collection that begins with the letter "A"? Let's stick to normal alphabetizing conventions, so A Beautiful Mind would count as a "B" not as an "A", and numbers will be alphabetized by the first letter of the number's name. Just to stay consistent, how about using original theatrical titles (for instance, Raiders of the Lost Ark instead of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark). You can treat box sets as one title, or you can break them into their separate components.

And just to add a little more fun, what if we pick the dvd beginning with the letter "A" that we don't own, but would like to.

For me, I would have to say that All About Eve is the best "A" movie in my collection. Almost Famous: Untitled is a great movie and has better extras, but All About Eve is just too fantastic a movie to get second place.

There are several movies that begin with "A" that I would like to own, but I'll go with Apollo 13.

What about you?

I would have to say the Abyss followed closely by the
Alien Quad.

DVD-wise, it's obviously the Alien Quadrilogy.

Movie-wise, it's a toss-up between Adaptation, American History X, American Splendor, and Apocalypse Now.
