Any opinions on which manufacturer/retailer is offering the best bang for the buck these days on sub-notebooks? Just something my mom can bring back and forth between home and school every day. Doesn't have to have eye-popping specs, as I imagine it is only going to be used primarily for Net access, word processing, and spreadsheet apps and probably some kids' games that I don't suspect are processor/graphics intensive.

One I really like is the Averatec 3150:

    # Athlon XP-M 1600+, 256MB DDR, DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive, 12.1" XGA TFT
    # 30GB Drive, Three USB 2.0, 10/100 + 56k, 4.1 lbs x 1.2", XP Home

Can be found online for $950, occasionally with rebates and coupons I've seen it for $750 USD...
