I was wondering what you guys consider to be the best calibration disk. It seems that the Avia is a good one, but the IGN DVD editor said that Digital Video Essentials (the newest one) far surpasses the outdated Avia one. What do you think?

Thanks

I don't think that DVE (DVD version) far surpasses Avia at all. I have both and generally prefer Avia because it is much easier to navigate than DVE and Avia has detailed instructions for using each of the tests. For gray scale calibration, Avia also has gray windows/fields in 10IRE steps as apposed to DVE's 20IRE steps.

I really recommend getting both if you can afford it, because DVE does have some high quality and unique test patterns. But if you only get one of them, I would recommend Avia over DVE for general purpose display calibration and audio setup.
