As previously trade in any DVD (no burned, no porn) with Case/Artwork for a $5 credit toward purchase of selected Blurays. Program runs 1/8/2012 until 1/28/2012. This is the 3rd or maybe 4th time this program will run with what appears to be a big advantage this time. The other times there has been a pretty narrow list of around 100 discs eligible. From early ad scans it appears this deal wll allow the trade in on ALL Blurays priced $9.99+ except for Music titles. It appears they still will limit the deal to 5 titles per visit per customer (or per day according to some stores). http://www.examiner.com/dvd-in-new-york/january-8-14-2012-1-8-1-14-best-buy-ad-scan-prices-for-dvd-blu-ray-deals-picture Some confirmed discounted titles after coupon New Releases Moneyball movie only $14.99 AC Moneyball Combo Blu-ray $19.99 AC Killer Elite Combo Blu-ray $14.99 AC What's Your Number Combo Blu-ray $14.99 AC Boardwalk Empire Complete Season 1 $29.99 AC $4.99 Blu-ray AC •Knocked Up (includes DVD and Digital Copy) •Casino •Braveheart •Rocky $9.99 Blu-ray AC •The Dark Knight •Scarface (includes Digital Copy) •Due Date (includes DVD and Digital Copy) •The Town (includes DVD and Digital Copy) •Our Idiot Brother $12.99 Blu-ray AC •The Debt •Rise of the Planet of the Apes (includes DVD and Digital Copy) •Mr. Popper's Penguins (includes DVD and Digital Copy) •Warrior (includes DVD and Digital Copy) •Cowboys & Aliens (includes DVD and Digital Copy) $14.99 Blu-ray AC •Green Lantern •Avatar (includes DVD) •The Fighter (includes DVD and Digital Copy) •Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 •The Help (includes DVD) •Fright Night (includes DVD) •Friends With Benefits (includes DVD and Digital Copy) •Super 8 (includes DVD and Digital Copy) $19.99 Blu-ray AC •Kung Fu Panda 2 (includes DVD and Digital Copy) •Dolphin Tale (includes DVD and UltraViolet Digital Copy) $24.99 Blu-ray AC (+Movie Cash for Beauty and the Beast 3D for up to $12 value in theaters 1/13/2012, expires 2/12/2012) Bambi Combo Alice in Wonderland Combo $29.99 Blu-ray AC (+Movie Cash for Beauty and the Beast 3D up to $12 value in theaters 1/13/2012, expires 2/12/2012) Beauty and the Beast 3D Combo

So what is Best Buy doing with these discs? Are they going to start selling used discs or are they just trying to drum up some business by letting people unload old discs? And am I crazy or did I hear that you could return discs without a case?

Never really heard what happened to the discs. I guess they could be using it to fund one of their 3rd Party used disc partners, but my guess is they just dispose of them or sell them in bulk to some other entity. I've not heard of being able to trade in bare discs. All the FAQ;'s and every sale they have always officially stated it must have the original case and artwork (assuming for the UPC). Now in reality there are always reports of some stores accepting Blockbuster used discs in those generic not-original cases, but just as many reports of those being turned down.

That's what I figured so I must have hallucinated reading that you could just give them a disc without the case. Like you said, they need a bar code so that idea didn't make alot of sense to me. And I doubt it will work but I think I'll try trading in one of BB's give away discs (like the first episode of Rome) and see if they'll take it.

The Warner Trade In program specifically said to just send the bare discs -- no case, no art, nothing. I'm sure some of those Giveaway discs and $0.01 discs with an official sleeves/cases have worked, but I'm not sure of the exclusions. Some stores scan the UPC code of the trade in to generate the receipt to attach to the coupons so if the original sleeve didn;t have a UPC I'm not sure how they handled it. Some of those DVD Game Preview discs might work depending on how they were packaged.

RE: the case and UPC, my local BB previously rejected one of my various copies of Stargate -- don't we all have way too many of that? -- because it had a promo offer label in place of a proper UPC. They scanned all the ones they took and rejected this one. Oddly, at least one clerk also rejected R rated titles that gave any indication of having sexuality as a significant theme, not just what is typically considered "adult movies" (per their offer restriction). One would think if they sell the titles in-store, they'd also accept them for this trade-in program (as I'm not aware that BB sells "adult movies"), but I guess the offer restriction description leaves just enough room for rather wide ranging interpretations by the clerks on that...

Maybe a little cold water on this deal. The fine print which was missing/left out of the original scans hints that there may be a more restricted list as in previous sales. From the bottom of the back page. "...any Blu-ray $9.99 and up. Choose from over 135 titles. Visit http://www.bestbuy.com/upgradeandsave for a complete list of Blu-ray movies and full details. Full Details on P. 11" Unfortunately no scans of p 11 were uploaded and my paper is still a few hours away. Stay tuned for the other shoe.

^ I've got the ad and the fine print on p. 11 just seems to be the standard stuff already discussed here (pressed disc, original case, etc) and not any mention of titles. I'm most interested in getting Boardwalk Empire for $30 but for $5, I'll gladly pick up American Beauty too.

I looked up all my freebie discs on BB's site and only one came up in their system (the first episode of Deadwood). I went and traded it in with no problem. I think the girl at the customer service desk just scanned a bar code for the trade-in rather than my scanning the bar code on my disc so I'm guessing I could have traded in any free disc and I still would have gotten a coupon. Unfortunately, American Beauty was sold out but I'm set up for Boardwalk Empire on Tuesday.

A good promotion and glad to see it back. Though it is a bit confusing this time around. The employee said 140+ movies were included but their system only showed the employee around 60 yesterday and they didn't know why. Picked up the 2-disc Braveheart BD yesterday for $4.99! Tried getting another BD, but it's price had dropped from $9.99 to $9.75 for the promotion, thus disqualifying it. :( Will go back later this week and pick up some more discs or maybe wait a week or so to see if others are added. Is there a list of the 140 somewhere? On an unrelated note, the comments, people & overall atmosphere at HTF is so much more pleasant than another forum which I'll leave unnamed. That forum has a 70+ page thread on this same topic. At least half of the comments are people spewing hatred at Best Buy calling their employees "idiots" "morons" "subhuman" and worse. I cannot believe that people spend their lives in such rage. And certainly the Best Buy employees I've ever worked with were all great people.

There is no current list and debatable whether there is an actual list. The online list has maybe 1/3 of the so called 140, but several that are ineligible and many of the discs featured in Sunday's ad aren't on the list. The majority opinion is the BBY intended this to be an unlimited offer the way most of the signage and coupons are written, but they copy/pasted just enough of the old material to confuse everyone. Far too many people are getting the coupons to work for any 9.99 Bluray without overrides now for me to believe otherwise. I see people in other forums are still being given the list from October;s sale and at least one poor guy was given a list from last May.

Yeah, considering that all the new releases are on sale, the ad says that you can use the coupon on them and none of those titles are in the list, I think you'll probably be able to use it with any disc above $9.99. You might have to talk to a manager or customer service but I don't think too many people will get turned away.

Their site (as directed via your link) does seem to show ~140 BD titles now, but yeah, it also seems like it may be an old/outdated list from last October, judging by the final url (and corresponding title) for the listing page (and certain missing promoted titles shown in the weekly flyers):

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=-8789913796805849262&id=pcat17071&type=page&ks=960&st=Upgrade_and_Save_20111002&sc=Global&cp=1&sp=-bestsellingsort+skuid&qp=crootcategoryid%23%23-1%23%23-1~~q557067726164655f616e645f536176655f3230313131303032~~nccat02015%23%230%23%233b&list=y&usc=All+Categories&nrp=50&iht=n

Most titles could've been had for about the same price or less during the holiday shopping season though, so there's probably not much going on w/ this sale for most of us anyway.

The new redirect site has replaced the bogus 61 with the October 2011 list. In practice most BBY are now following the "any $9.99 Bluray" stated on the coupon and up though there are still some isolated reports of problems. The coupons seem to automatically scanning any and all bluray and most certainly their Point of service computer system is not limiting people to either "list." This leaves something of the order of 150-200 potential Blurays eligible for 4.99 purchase and 150-200 more for 7.99. Many of these may be BF prices, but sheer number of possible choices makes this quite interesting if it continues for the month particularly with the large number of releases this month. Pretty much every one of these are deals people have gotten within the last 24-48 hours except Perdition since no BBY seems to have it in stock. American Beauty 4.99 Stripes 4.99 (if your store still has the tag for 9.99 on the shelf many will allow you to buy it for 9.99 instead of denying you for the current $9.75) The Debt 12.99 Apollo 13 4.99 The Warrior 12.99 Fever Pitch 7.99 Billy Elliott 7.99 Inglorious Basterds 4.99 North by Northwest 9.99 City of God 9.99 Fast and Furious 1-4 -- 4.99 each Moon 4.99 Leon the Professional 4.99 Ghostbusters 4.99 Serendipity 4.99 Carlitos Way 4.99 Kill Bill 1 or 2 -- 4.99 each Raging Bull 4.99 Thelma and Louise 4.99 Road to Perdition 4.99 (if you can find it in store) Next week Tuskegee Airmen 7.99 Ides of March 12.99

Deals from 1/15/2012 ad. Pretty good deals on the new releases. Many holdover prices from last week and a few increases (about par for the course). Will need to check the site tomorrow morning for how many other prices have changed. More and more stores are being reported at accpepting coupons for all 9.99 and up discs. Many less reports of stores arguing about a list or refusing to use the coupon on sale priced discs particularly since the POS computers are doing all the work. $12.99 After Coupon The Ides of March Blu 50/50 Blu $14.99 AC Abduction Blu+Digital The Scorpion King 3 Combo pack Harry Potter Blu $19.99 AC Apollo 18 Combo pack 4.99 each AC 40 year old virgin combo American gangster combo Fast and Furions blu Sweeny Todd blu Departed blu Blindside blu 9.99 AC Cruel Intentions Unknown combo pack Inception combo pack Life as we Know it combo pack Blues Brothers blu Yogi Bear blu 14.99 AC Expendables combo pack Horrible Bosses blu Black Swan blu Big Lebowski Blu+digital Wall Street Blu West Side Story Blu+dvd 24.99 AC Beauty and the Beast 3d Cars 2 3d Lion King 3d Pirates of the Caribbean 3d Boardwalk Empire Blu 39.99 with coupon Smallville 10 blu 29.99 with coupon

Sounds good.

I'll probably go pick up a couple titles, particularly Billy Elliot -- there's also a $3 MFR coupon you can get from Universal's online reward game to use on this title (and other so-called 100th anniversary Universal releases).
