getting my brother a dvdplayer for his wedding. He has NO home theater and would be using the L/R audio output jacks, plus it need to be REAL user friendly

I see the toshiba 2800 for about 130 and the sony model for 150

any preferences

must be 149.99 and under....

The Tosh 2800 in my bedroom performs like a champ--and can read discs with no problems at all. Amazed at the performance of the little bugger. Good player. Slightly noisy drive motor. Decent interface/handset, though the remote is cluttered. Good picture through both S-Video and Component-Video outs. Sound quality is average.

Very easy-to-learn setup menus. He should be cool with this little player.

You should be able to find a Panasonic at that price, too. I like the Panasonics - they read all CD formats (even mp3) and are good players. Very user friendly... but for user friendliness, buy your brother the same brand DVD player that his TV is. Remotes will work better together that way.
