Marshall W. just saved me from buying a Sony A55- which it turns out is a piece of crap. I'm back on the drawing board; I'm also pissed that the Sales guy- who was competent in recommending other gear- blew this recommendation so badly. It seems in general that there aren't many competent people out there- at least in retail stores. Don't even want to tell you about my Radio Shack nightmare....
Anyway. I don't mind paying extra to get better quality and avoid hassles down the line. I don't have an HD set but I am fedup with the local cable clowns and want to switch. I would like DD 5.1 output, preferably coax, and a good S-Video/component video output.
If I have to go up to a HD receiver to get these features so be it. Another site has lots of people recommending Hughes and Mitsubishi- any comments?
    thanks

    Rob,
You can't go wrong with the Hughes units. The mitsubishi's are just rebadged hughes units although they are using a older design.
