Well, I'm sick of not having a sub in my car. I miss the bass. So it's time to start shopping for a sub, as I will build the enclosure, and then decide on the amp after I choose the sub.

So, here are my sub requirements: Must be a 10incher, works well in ~2.0cu.ft. ported, good/great x-max, and not cost an arm and a leg. I'm not looking for an overpriced JL or Fosgate sub, but preferably one that that you can't buy in a B&M store.

Also, I want this bad boy to go pretty low and be really tight.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

The best sub made in my opinion is the Image Dynamics IDMAX. It's sound quality is second to none, and it is the second loudest sub ever tested by Mobile Entertainment. I have an Image Dynamic IDQ 10 (the sub below the IDMAX line) and cannot believe how good it sounds. I have had it for 2 years, and everytime I think about upgrading, I can't let myself do it becasue mine sounds so dang good. The IDQ can be had for around 120-150 a peice (dont let the price fool you, this thing is incredible. Has won more car audio sound quality competitions than any other sub). Tha IDMAX can be had for around 350-400 dollars. The only sub I would upgrade to would be the ID max. Ohyeah, the IDQ is 300 watts rms, and the IDMAX is something like 750 watts rms. Check em out.

Thanks Ches. I'll check'em out. Do you happen to have the website for the subs handy?
If I were to get one(not the IDMAX as it's out of my price range) what would be the best way to go: the 2ohm DVC model or the 4ohm DVC model?
BTW, I found these subs for $129 including shipping from www.caraudioexpress.com. Seems like a very good price for them. I may just go for one of the 12inchers! :D

It depends on which amp you have. If you are only getting one sub and you amp is 4ohm stable mono, then get the 2 ohm DVC. If the amp is 2 ohm stable mono, or you are getting two subs then get the 4 ohm DVC. Be sure that you check your amp for its MONO impedence rating.
That is a good price for the twelves. I might think about getting one.

I'll throw in two suggestions of companies that I own their product though I own the home woofer models (Tempest, Shiva, and BP1201 respectively). Link Removed has a new woofer the Brahma which looks for the most part a sub that most likely most would not upgrade from though pricy (but then the one time spend big and not spend for several years to me is better than buying a woofer each year) though you could buy a Shiva that'd fit the 2 cubic feet and do nice things in a car. Link Removed have various drivers as well and are much cheaper in cost (1001 or 1002 though you can maybe squeeze in their 12s instead).
Other companies I will also suggest though I've never heard his products (though I own his test disc) is www.stryke.com since he has a lot of nice woofers and is well respected and www.hsuresearch.com which is also a well known in the home audio field has a nice woofer in your budget range as well.

I wouldn't say JL Audio is overpriced. I used a 10in Powerwedge in my car for 3 years (I sold that car and haven't reinstalled the whole system in my new one yet). I only paid 169.00 for it. I power it with an a/d/s P640 bridged to 120W @8ohm. What impressed me is how tight the bass is and how little watts it needs to really romp. I'd recommend at least an audition.

If you're adding 12" as a possibility, you might consider the Hsu research one. You can get just the woofer, or the woofer in the enclosure as well. It's supposed to pack quite a wallop!

I used to run a single Punch Power 10 a few years back and was able to pressure a bit over 140 dB with it. Since the Power series is (sadly) no longer produced, I now recommend Apline Type-R subs in 10, 12, & 15" flavors.

I have a pair of Image Dynamics 10" SVC 4OHM. It's not the IDQ it's only the ID10. I will sell it to you for $100.00 + shipping for the PAIR. These are NEW in their boxes that I bought Over 1 year ago and NEVER installed it! I got the Tempest instead. I opened One box just to see how they look and they look good.

Email me or just reply if you are interested.
