Quite moved to hear of the passing of the truly remarkable French Director BERTRAND TAVERNIER. He made quite a number of fine films but his 80s run makes him one of THE filmmakers of that decade. SUNDAY IN THE COUNTRY, A WEEK'S VACATION, COUP DE TORCHON and LIFE AND NOTHING BUT are an extraordinary quartet. His decade began with the fascinating sci-fi exploration DEATH WATCH and also included his commercial breakthrough with 'ROUND MIDNIGHT which featured Jazz legend Dexter Gordon. He continued making feature films up until 2013, but it was his 3 hour exploration Documentary on a very personal history of French Cinema, MY JOURNEY THROUGH FRENCH CINEMA, that stands as the capstone to his life and career.
Merci et Au Revoir, Monsieur Tavernier.
