I see that BenQ is coming out with a new line of projectors in March. I was planning on buying the 8700 after reading all the great reviews. The new BenQ model that is replacing the 8700 has twice the contrast ratio of the 8700. I am not a videophile. This is my first projector and I don't really know how important the contrast ratio is. Is this going to make a huge difference in picture quality? Or should I get the 8700 for a discount price?

At this point, nobody knows whether the contrast ratio on the new line is significantly greater than the 8700 or not. Published contrast ratios are notoriously unreliable in anything but a laboratory test environment.

As a side note, I think BenQ has now pushed back the release date for the new projectors into April or May.

Thank you for the info. I think I am just going to go with the 8700 when the price comes down.
