Admin note - While we realize that there are many varied opinions on speaker design and speaker kits, the HTF will not tolerate name-calling from any of the members here. That includes "the idiots that don't agree with me" comments. We will be monitoring the comments of those who are offering speaker kits as a business, and hold them to a higher standard when it comes to expressing their views on various aspects of speaker building and driver selection.
So please, offer your views, but do not attempt to downgrade other people's views with name-calling and personal attacks for holding contrary views and opinions. It's up to each side of the discussion to post constructively and stick to the topics at hand without resorting to name-calling and personal attacks which seek to undermine people's credibility in terms of knowledge and experience. And please, do not engage in reactive name-calling either, simply report a questionable post to the admins, and we will take care of the situation.

Yes Danny thanks for the advice. I was planning the possibility of adding them to my Kit281s crossing them over hopefully not much higher than 800Hz (would like to reduce the imperfect upper midrange >1.2KHz of the AV8s) and 5-8KHz (where the vertical dispersion becomes a problem).

How low does the Neo8 go with no baffle or enclosure at all?

Well Stephen I just recieved my av1+ kit today. It came via UPS. It was packed very well and nothing was missing. The crossovers were a breeze to assemble. I went to radio shack and got me some DIY circut boards. just a 5"x5" perforated with tiny holes for the caps and such. made it very easy and neat. It took my about 2-3hours to assemble. That is including learning on how to solder.

I should have them completed in a couple weeks. I will pit them against my Paradigm reference 40's. and report back.
this is what I paid in Canadian $$

av1+ kit +shipping $523
taxes and brokerage(15%tax) $121(brokerage fee was $46)
total $643 delivered to my door

The inductors and caps are huge. The completed crossover has to weigh as much as woofer. So far I'm very pleased.

Shawn,

I haven't done any direct comparisons, but I have listened to a pair of Studio 100's recently. If their sound is any indication as to the sound of the 40's, the A/V-1+'s should kick the sh*t out of the 40's.

Well the quality is there. As long as I don't fudge up anything I'm really looking foward to the av1+. The only weakness I see the paradigms have is there tweeter. I've listened to B&W cnt series the ones with the little tweeter on top and it was smoother than the paradigms but at $1700CAD were out of my price range. Though I still like my paradigms I'm not afraid to admit when something is clearly better. And I like it loud from time to time so the av1+'s will be put through its paces. The only thing that scares me is that recessed tweeter and veneer.
I may take some pictures of the crossovers assembled. If I can get a digital camera(I'm camera shy) and someone to host or post them(I'm somewhat slow on a computer). I may even take the crossover out of my paradigms to compare to the av1+. Man I love DIY:D
