I think Warner Bros. has been trying to do this for ages. Kevin Smith has told a story about the meeting that brought him the Superman Live writing assignment. They first offered some properties to see if he was interested, one of which was "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian"... Smith passed as he felt he had nothing to add to the Beetlejuice "oeuvre." :)

I think this would be a good sequel. The first was alot of fun and if it doesn't try to be serious, Beetlejuice 2 would probably be a blast.

Should they even attept to bring back the principle cast back? It would be great if they could write everyone in without it sounding ludacris, but I don't know if it can be done. Still, whatever they do they NEED to show more of the neitherworld.

No way they could rematch the original with the cast they had.

This idea sounds like trouble to me all the way because of this. Sometimes you get lucky and get this amazing cast in a quirky film helmed by a director with a definitive vision and it all just comes together.

Then some suit decides to capture and bottle that magic as if such a thing can be done.

Beetlejuice 2: Electric Bugaloo
Aahhhh, I don't know of a film in existence that can't be followed up by a good old Electric Bugaloo. ;)
But seriously, I known its a cliche to moan about sequels, but following up Beetlejuice is a BAD idea. Ask yourself one question: Why? When considering the validity of a sequel, ask yourself this question. If it can be answered with anything other than: 'money' or 'don't know', then its a good idea.
(The crowd applauds as Paul collects the award for most obvious statement of the millenium award, and takes a bow.) :D

But Die Hard and Terminator, and for the most part Aliens, were all sequels brought on by the success of the former, and they were all great.
John takes his bow as he accepts the Steve Christou annual "The Less One Makes Definitive Statements, The Less One Looks Foolish In Retrospect" Award

Let me be the first to say that this would be the ideal vehicle to put the talents of Tim Burton, Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, and Alec Baldwin to use... hopefully for the next five to ten years (a coddlingly light sentence, if you ask me).
