The specs for the upcoming Beastmaster disc are up at DVDFile. It looks like the disc will be coming out at the end of October, which is a lot earlier than I expected. There is no mention of a limited edition, and I see that Anchor Bay has deleted the limited edition from their web site as well. I guess it fell through. I was a little disappointed at first, but if it's just a tin and a booklet or something? No big deal. The Coscarelli commentary will more than make up for that. I am a little disappointed to see no deleted scenes are listed in the specs. Coscarelli has said he has some such scenes in his vault, including some nude scenes featuring Tanya Roberts. Maybe her lawyers got those barred. [IMG]
Anyway, sounds like a great disc, and cheap at $19.95 MSRP.

Actually, I had a question about this. The PAL release of The Beastmaster is called "the director's cut." I know Coscarelli has said that the version we all know and love wasn't his version and that the producers had recut the movie after he had handed it over. However, the run time on the director's cut is 113 minutes, while ABay lists their run time as 118. Is the PAL disc actually the director's cut?

I don't know for sure, but I do remember reading an interview where Coscarelli claimed to have no knowledge of the PAL version. I'll dig around and see if I can find his quotes.

If the PAL director's cut is 113 min., then the NTSC directors cut is 118 min. 118-4%=113.

I reckon Anchor Bay'll stick in the nude footage as an Easter Egg! They KNOW that's too good to not include! [IMG]

Hey....Yeah! This was suppose to be a 2- disc set. With lots of delted scenes/lost scenes.
Plus those naked outtakes of Tanya Roberts
Well, at least we get a THx 16x9 DTS-ES with commentary [IMG]

I honestly don't believe that Tanya Roberts would sic her lawyers on anybody over nude scenes. While I'm sure she makes a decent living from That 70's Show, I would expect that for a few $ more she won't mind authorizing a license...if it's even in her power to sign for! Usually the actress signs away all rights once she agrees to commit the footage to filmstock (and takes the paycheck).

ALSO, If you look up the specs on this DVD, it says that there are never before seen footage with WILD SURPRISES.
Could this be Tanya Roberts naked???

This is the art they're using?

It's not bad, but it sure looks like a cartoon! I like the good old VHS cover:

Don't worry about it. Though I couldn't find the interview again, I know I read where Coscarelli was completely unaware of the region 2 disc. It certainly wasn't his cut. Also, it's full frame. The upcoming disc will be definitive.
BTW, I don't see any contest between the images above. The new disc's art is clearly the best. Got to admit, though, the region 2 cover is pretty nice. I suppose that's a publicity shot and not a still.

I like the new cover, becuase you can see all the different characters and such things all over. It is really cool [IMG]
On Anchor Bay's site, they do say, that you have never seen Beastmaster quite like this before.
I'm really hoping this has awesome sound in DTS-ES
I bet all of us are going to be very well pleased.
Very curious about the commentary [IMG]
