Yep.. that's right.. I'm leaving my personal looks in the hands of the HTF once again.

A little background: I started growing a "full" beard back in December sort of as a joke for an ice fishing trip with the guys. Anyway.. I decided to let it go until the first day of Spring to see how it looked.

I've had conflicting reviews on the beard it never really took off as a nice thick, manly beard.. so, I figure I'll let some mostly-complete strangers decide its fate. [IMG]

Take a look at the following photo and let me have it!

The clean-shaven look definitely makes you look younger. If the beard was more together I'd say keep it, but I think you should put it out of its misery.

Amazing what photoshop can do! If I didn't know it had been manipulated, I didn't see anything odd about that "option 3" photo... [IMG]

I'm in a similar boat as Brandon -- I have a goatee beard, my wife keeps bugging me to shave it off. But despite that potential bias in favour, I think I'm with David on this one.

I believe there are two trains of thought here.

    One goes like this:
Do you want to look younger or older? That touch of gray (or is it grey?) probably makes you look more your real age (but not necessarily). Also, how do you feel about shaving? Having a beard means you only have to shave about half you face, although you do need to do some trimming regularly.

Then there is the second thought:
Do the chicks dig it? Seriously. Ask some of the ladies you know which 'you' they prefer. If you have no personal preference, then why not go with what appeals to the fairer sex?

I've had my beard - except for a 3 month stupid shave - for 28 years now. It's more gray (there's that word again) and white than brown, but I plan to be buried in it.

I hope I never meet a woman with a beard like that... [IMG]

While I prefer to be clean shaven, until they make a razor that I can spend more time shaving with than I do cleaning whiskers out of the damn thing, I'll probably stick with the beard.

As for you Dave, either works, but you do look younger without the beard.

The ones I asked said they did.. but it usually was followed with "are you going to keep it?" So, it's hard to say for sure. [IMG]

    Your out of whack,

    See this link

Look only at the bottom two pictures on the page.

    (second from bottom)
Notice the longer hair with fuller, longer length beard?
    (bottom last)
Notice the shorter hair with shaved, shaped beard?

If you decide to shave the whole thing..play around first.

1: Keep the full beard but clip the beard with a long shaver to a length where the hair sticks straight out, don’t let the length of the individual hairs get so long they start curling. Keep a sharp clean edge below cheekbone down the run of the beard back towards ear. Cut the bottom of the mustache above the lip.
In other words groom it all up close.

2: If you have enough hair in the goatee connector section (imaginary line running down from outer corner of lips straight to chin). Then shave a nice sharp edge at top of beard following your chin line running back to your ear, get rid of everything in the sparse hollow on the sides of your face other than the “Goatee Connector Section”

I made the “G CS” term up [IMG]

3: Play around with modified versions of goatees. Larger to smaller, but all versions close shaved.

4: Try shaving “H”, “T” and “F” on the side your face.

My dream is to go without a shave or cut for a year to achieve that Tom "Castaway" Hanks look.[IMG]

How about a reverse goatee? You only shave the area around the mouth.[IMG]

You've just got to work on shaping it.
