I recently watched the pilot episode on the
Battlestar Galactica boxset and found that
the picture quality is less than desirable.
When I viewed the segment with Glen Larson..
talking about Battlestar Galactica,there were
clips on there(some from "Saga of a Star World)
that looked 100 percent better than the actual
episode itself.I think they could've done a
much better job in remastering the picture.
What do you think??

Sure, they could have done a better job, but would the set be viable if they did? It is already priced well above many other shows, and if they had to factor in an expensive restoration, it could well make it impossible to release. Besides, how else will they be able to remarket this series in a few years with "newly remastered" episodes?

A&E's treatment of Space: 1999 sure improved with the second season, but only after complaints about season one.

the problems with the PQ on the set are very od from what i have seen.
it can vary widely from shot to shot within a scene, but it varies in a consistent way- if that is understandable.

for instance the establishing shot can be grainy and 'dupey' looking,
but then we cut to the close-up of A and the shot looks pristine.
we cut to a reaction shot of B and we are back to a grainy/dupey appearence.
cut back to A and its pristine again.
the scene changes to something else and its Pristine as well...for a while.

also, the problems i see look soewhat artificial, but in a whay i haven't seen elsewhere.
the term mosquito noise most aptly describes the way it looks to me, but i think most people are using that term to describe some other kind of flaw.

yes, BG is a very schizophrenic looking package, but on the whole it looks decent enough to me.
Universal is capable of putting out some incredibley fine looking discs, and when BG does look good- it looks great.
its a shame it can't be more consistently great looking as the Hulk set for example.
