I have a JBL 8 inch 100 watt subwoofer. It is a downward firing sub and I have it on some thick carpet. Would it be a good idea to place some type of base plate under the sub? (like a piece of slate) Or would this make no difference whatsoever?

From what I was told and what I have read when I went sub shopping, a carpeted floor with a down firing sub, the carpet is going to absorb most of the bass. Im not sure what type of material to use under it but I would think that a nice piece of slate would probably do the trick and if its sized right would look pretty good.

    Good luck.
