Seinfeld's TV dad dies at age 82
Rest in peace, Barney.
A fine actor who will forever be immortalized in one of the best recurring roles in TV history.
Hopefully there will be a nice tribute to him in the Season 4 boxset.
I'm sad to see this news. I guess like most people I really only knew him from Seinfeld. However, I did just see an episode of the 1985 Twilight Zone that he was really good in.
"My wallet's gone!"
Sad to hear. I really enjoyed his Morty Seinfeld character.
"Plum!" He had a great read on that line.
He was a great character actor in every sense of the word.
He was also very good in the movie Arthur, playing Linda's (Liza Minnelli) father.
All the stories I have read said he is the third actor to play Morty Seinfeld. I only remember one other person playing him in an early episode. Did the AP get that detail wrong and and the rest of the news picked up on it? Or, am I wrong?
You may be right, Will. IMDB only lists Philip Bruns as the other Morty.
It's sad, another of the Seinfeld family members is gone. Well, I guess he and Lloyd Bridges can now argue about who's the real #1 dad.
You guys and the IMDB are right. Philip Burns played Morty in The Stakeout (the first episode they did after the pilot). Then in the season two episode The Pony Remark and there after, Barney Martin played Morty.
Thats sad... hope they do a tribute to him.
He was a great character actor who was part of the cast that made Seinfeld what it was. Thing is - I could relate as to Jerry as I saw much of my dad in Morty lol!
