Banding

    Can banding of the image on a videotape be there from its origins? For example, if a television show from twenty years ago is shown via composite tape, could the banding have been there from the beginning..what causes this?

    Can you describe what the banding looks like, how wide, how many, what color?
    I do not think stripes, say, an inch wide, would appear as a result of aging of the tape. They would more likely have been present in the source material or a result of noise or interference at the time of recording.
