    Hi
We have just recieved BOB on TV (free to air) here in Australia. It is being shown in pan and scan.

Is this right? I doubt such a huge production would not be in widescreen. Are we missing out here in Australia??

It was shown simulataneously in 4:3 and 16:9 (2 different channels)

I'm guessing 16:9 is the preferred ratio

The R1 DVD will be in anamorphic widescreen.

As I recall, it was shown in HDTV where available, and in a standard definition 16:9 letterboxed format.
I don't recall ever seeing a 4:3 version and I have 12 HBO channels (Digital Comcast in Washington, DC).

HBO was definitely broadcasting BOB in both WS and P&S, as I accidently TiVo'd a couple of the wrong format ones...

BoB would show on HBO 1 in widescreen while simultaneously running in 4:3 on HBO 2.

I too remember that it was in 4:3 on HBO2. I do remember though that there was nothing about the picture composition that made it seem particularly bad in 4:3. Definitely worth watching in 4:3 if 16:9 is not available to you.

I'm disappointed that its not transmitted in 16:9 especially since most of the Channel broadcasting it shows a lot of 16:9 material. This is the first chance Oz has had a chance at watching Band of Brothers and I must say it is excellent. Episode 3 aired the other night so we have only just started, but this series has me totally taken in. I just can't wait to experience this on DVD with Widescreen transfers and DTS.

I had cable back when BoB came out and I'm sure that I saw 4:3 on HBO 1. I remember before every episode a warning came up stating that the following presentation would be broadcast in widescreen and DD 5.1 on HBO+ (or maybe HBO2), a channel I did not have.

Sorry Tommy, they did the same thing with BOB they do with the Sopranos...it's in widescreen/5.1 on HBO, and shown in pan & scam on HBO2.

It looks like Sopranos 4th season will be only on HBO. But will it be widescreen?

Brian, well Minority Report was 2.35 - its the first time that Speilberg has shot like this for a while though.

Since i haven't heard anything, does anyone have an idea of when BoB will be released on DVD?? I only got HBO 1/2way through the series, and couldn't catch the marathon, so i really want to see some of the first episodes...

    thanks!

I watched Episode One of Band of Brothers on CTV (Canada) last night and it was not in widescreen. Between this and all the commercials I think I will watch the rest of the series on DVD.
