I just got done watching, for the 4th time, Band of Brothers on HBO Signature, episode Bastogne,of course I was switching in between the St Louis and Detroit NHL game, go St Louis! I hate the Red Wings. And Keith just got the hat trick!!!!! Anyway I do have to say, I think it is one of best shows ever made. I am so waiting for the SE dvd series to come out, deleted scenes, more interviews and DTS! I am praying for the best HBO to dvd transfer ever. Any word on when this might be out? I won't hold my breath, afterall I am still begging for The Sopranos season 3.

Yeah, there is a thread in here somewhere with a release date for Band of Brothers and Sopranos season 3.

I agree with you when you say that it's the best thing on T.V. It is far above and beyond anything I have seen on television. It's far better than Saving Private Ryan, in my opinion. I know it's hard to put a mini-series against a movie since the mini-series has more time to develop. But, I would put any two consecutive episoses up against Saving Private Ryan(to make time more even) and I would pick Band of Brothers every time.

There is absolutely no doubt I am going to be purchasing this DVD set when it comes out. I will probably even buy one for my father.

I agree.

I think this is my third time through BOB, in HD and DD5.1. The first two times, I was totally enraptured by the visual and aural experience (especially the Bastogne episode), but this time I find myself getting more caught up in the emotion of the series, the bond that has developed between the men and the toll their experiences in the battlefield have taken on them.

Everything about this series is top-drawer, the acting, the writing, the directing, the cinematography, the production values, the sound mix, and the score.

If you guys liked Band of Brothers, you should really check out From the Earth to the Moon (if you haven't already seen it). I realize that they are two different subjects, but I actually thought that From the Earth to the Moon was better.

While I absolutely love Band of Brothers, nothing touches the opening 20 minutes from Saving Private Ryan in it. The closest is the episode "Breaking Point", but not quite up to SPR standards. The rest of the series, I agree, is better than most war movies out there

This worries me a little. While I enjoyed Earth to the Moon; I thought it fell flat at times. There was some lack in production value at times and poor acting. A few of the slower episodes missed their mark. This is my opinion of course; but I wonder what others think of the comparison between the two. I haven't seen BoB yet and planned to buy it sight unseen when the DVD's came out. But I wouldn't purchase EttM.

This is my first time watching Band Of Brothers and the show is outstanding in every aspect, and I do like it more than SPR(although the opening battle sceen is 2nd to none). They put A LOT of effort into this series and it shows.

Mike, you will enjoy BoB a lot so don't worry.

Which episodes? Well, it's been a while since I've seen them; but as I recall there were a few episodes that attempted to take closer looks at a few of the lesser known aspects of the space program. While I applaud the attempt to take a chance like that; I just didn't feel that they worked. It seemed as if the producers/writers/actors were taking the episode off; as if it were not as "important" an episode. Of course I may be talking right out of my ass and if I had seen them more recently I could better articulate my problems. Let me be clear, I enjoyed that series; but it didn't blow me away. I applaud HBO for takling the subject at all. BUT BoB looks as though HBO stepped it up a notch in terms of production value and writing. If it is simply similar to their space race program; well, I'm reticent.

I have been wanting to check this show out since I am a big SPR fan and history buff. I have also been playing Medal of Honour:Allied Assault on my PC which has further fueled my interest in the show. Will I be lost in the story line if I start to watch the show now? It has been playing on the movie networks here in Canada.

Don,

No, you can pick it up anytime, but it took me 2 viewings to start getting all the characters correct (except Winters and Garnere (sp?) and a couple 'main' characters). Historically, it follows the 101st until the Eagle's Nest capture, the 'highlight' of which is their time in Bastogne and in the Ardennes forest...

I do have to agree with you guys on the opening scene of SPR. It will never be topped. At least not in the near future. I also really enjoy the ending battle as well. I have been using that to demo equipment with. When Barry Pepper is popping of rounds with his sniper rifle you can feel it hit you chest everytime a round goes off.

i thought from the earth to the moon was the best thing done on tv that i had seen up to that point. but band of brothers has surpassed even that. and both due to tom hanks.

band of brothers is superb in just about every aspect of film-making. historical accuracy, costumes and production, writing, directing, acting, special effects, it's just terrific all around.
