I have thought about using banana plugs for over a year now, ever since I got into separates, do they offer any advantages in sound terms other than being merely convenient? Thanks

The are just another bit of resistance that the current encounters. It should be said that the convenience should not be overlooked.

Banana plugs or spade lugs are for convenience, or to connect to components where nothing else fits.
If your system is working fine without banana plugs and you don't plan on frequent disassembly and re-assembly, don't bother with banana plugs.
In fact banana plugs can increase the maintenance your system needs. Where the wire goes into the back of the banana plug, if not soldered, can oxidize and produce a bad connection after several years.
