I just bought High Quality Banana Binding Post Decora Style Wall Plate for 1 Speaker - Coupler Type 3324 from monoprice For only $1.57 each when QTY 50+ purchased - High Quality Banana Binding Post Decora Style Wall Plate for 1 Speaker - Coupler Type | Banana Binding Post Wall Plate . I'm going to be using bare wire and want to know how I should connect the wires. The terminals unscrew which reveals a hole and then theres one on the end of each terminal. Should I unscrew, wrap the wire around, and tighten back. Or insert through the hidden hole and tighten. Or insert into the hole thats always exposed.
Thanks

When I use this type of terminal I go through the hidden hole. I thread the wire from the bottom of the hole and extend the wire about 1/8 to 1/4" then tighten the terminal

Is there any reason you do not want to terminate the speaker wire with banana plugs? These plugs add some cost, but make it extremely easy to make problem-free connections to the binding posts. Personally, I use banana plugs for all speaker connections, both at the receiver and speaker ends. My fingers are not nimble enough to thread wire easily through the binding posts, especially on a tightly packed area like the back of an audio/video receiver.

The banana plugs are good for connections that are disassembled and reassembled often. But there is an additional joint that could oxidize over time, between the wire and the back of the banana plug, as well as between the plug and the binding post.

Connecting the wire directly to the binding post is perfectly adequate for connections that will stay put. Except do not screw down the cap too tight after poking the wire into the hole. You may shear off some of the strands. You will have to be careful about short circuits from stray strands poking out, or sheared off and dropping onto another binding post.
