I had a set of component cables that were connected to the 2 audio ones also, but I didn't need the audio ones so I ripped the cables down the middle to split the 3 component cables from the 2 audio ones. You can now see some of the copper wire on the component cable side. Is this bad?

Not likely, you probably just tore the rubber sleeve exposing the copper shield. If the shield wasn't damaged you should be pretty safe. Just throw some electrical tape on it. If however you cut the cable exposing the copper core through the shield, the cable could be toast.

Yep, just the sleeve is torn, it seems to work fine. I'll keep an eye on it though. Thanks
