I wasn't referring to the construct, which I understood (the same construct is still present in my own language and perfectly correct), but to the fact that someone declares to be unsure what he remembers (in fact if he remembers something). Not altogether impossible, and most of the time rather ironical, but in general and, in the sense of this thread, rather illogical. :)

I think the worst use of grammer is in some commercials. When they say:
"Up to 50% off or more"
It makes me very irate, since the price is EITHER up to 50% OR it is MORE!!!!!
:angry: Makes me mad just thinking about it. :angry:
