i have a toshiba rd-xs34s DVD-r with a 160 GB HD...right now it contains all my home movies. i've burned them all to disc, but i was thinking of backing it all up on an external HD. i'm looking at the Western Digital My Book 250-500 GB. any thoughts or recommendations?

TIA

That should work fine; but it's kind of expensive just to serve as a backup. Why not high quality DVD+R stored in a cool, dark envoronment? That might be just as reliable. HDDs are still subject to magnetic corruption and mechanical failure, so they're not the perfect solution either. Each have advantages and disadvantages, but HDDs are far pricier. For the same price you could double-back up onto highest quality DVD-+R.

Probably not without merrit though, just pricey.
