I'm looking to upgrade my system and my question is whether I should go with the 601 or 602.5 speakers as my main speakers. I have a relatively small living room and hardwood floors that help to amplify sound. I've also currently got B&W LCR 60 Center, Definitive Technologies ProMonitor surround, Velodyne SPL 800 Sub. Any help would be appreciated.

    Patrick,

From a sound standpoint, the only reason to go with the 602.5s over the 601s is if you intend to listen to some straight 2 ch. stereo without the sub. In that case, though, you might want to try and move up to the 603's. For movies, with the fronts set to small, there would be little advantage to the 602.5's over the 601s. Another reason though, for using the 602.5's is to avoid the need for stands. If you'd rather have floorstanding speakers rather than stands, get the 602.5's.

    I use 601's all around with a CC6 (LCR60) in the center.

    Why not the 602s?

The 602s are definately a great speaker, but in my house, for my setup and with my wife's preferences the 601s would be a better fit. From what I understand the 602s have more bass, but my sub does a great job in that department.

Definately go with the 601's. I auditioned the 602.5 just for kicks when I was buying my CDM1NTs and they sounded terrible vs. the 602's. Mushy, dull and lifeless came to mind. I think the extra cabinet really ruined a good 602 design. Save your dough and go with the 601's since you have a good sub.

The 602.5 is for those unlucky sods whose partners won't let them have bookshelves in the house [IMG]. The 602 is a much better choice if sound quality is your priority... less cabinet = more rigidty = less resonance = better speaker. Except for bass extension of course.
    Cheers,
    Mike
