I was catching up on some of the threads and I get the impression that people don't like B&W subs here.

I recently auditioned the ASW600 and the ASW2500- the 2500 was nothing to write home about, but I was impressed by the 600- very tight bass, very clean, no bloated sound.

Has anyone auditioned the ASW600 or is this dislike based on the older subs?

Right now, I'm considering the Energy 12" that's around $600, the B&W ASW600 and that's about it so far- the Mirage I was not impressed with, I listened to this behemoth Paradigm that I was again not impressed with, my friend's Paradigm 2200 is massively bloated and rather horrible sounding compared to the B&W and the only other thing that sounded remotely decent was the Sunfire True Sub (I think that's what it was called- approx. $1500).

What do people think about kits? I was recently checking out Madisound's site and saw they have a couple sub kits using NHT 12" and 10" drivers powered by about 250W-300W, sounds like a pretty good deal for under $400, although I'd have to assemble it myself. I don't mind that part as long as I'm just putting parts together rather than actually building the cabinet, which I cannot do.

Would a kit like this measure up to the Energy sub that's just under $600?

Check out the Adire Rava for $399 plus shipping. I have not auditioned the ASW600 and so, I cannot help you there. I own the Rava. Very tight, accurate, musical. The Rava is good for HT as well. And BTW, you will not need to assemble it. It's a steal for the price.

Another one to cosider then would be Acoustic Visions. They sell flat kits where all you do it glue and screw the precut panels together, then mount the driver and amp, and then put a finish on it.

Would be about $450 to get something similar to an Adire Dharman. Adire Allignment Tempest in flat form is $540 (expect SVS Ultra type performance from this kit)

B&W also has the ASW 650 (200 watt/12inch)- this is the one that I currently own. Love it. B&W also just announced the ASW 675 (500watt/10inch) and the ASW CM (500watt/10inch), both are pretty much the same sub with different exteriors. Check out www.bwspeakers.com.
They will be releasing (soon) ASW800 (nautilus line) and ASW CDM (1000watt).
