B&W ASW1000 or Yamaha SW800? (1 Viewer)

Well, I would be getting an SVS sub, but I live in Holland and the shipping costs are a *little* steep.

So now I have narrowed it down to the B&W ($500) and the Yammy ($430)...

I also listen to music a lot of the time, so the sub has to be at least a little musical, and I have a small room...

any suggestions?

Give them both a listen to identical, bass loaded music. Listen and think long and hard before dropping the $ on the ASW1000. It's a decent sub, but if I were to do it again, I'd spend that money elsewhere. That being said, that's a pretty solid price for that sub.

Steve, I only have limited options, as most of the subs recommended on this forum don't exist in Europe (HSU, SVS)

Are there any other recommendations (apart from HSU or SVS) in the $500 price range?

The asw1000 is a pretty decent unit. What other manufacturers are presented in your neck of the woods Willem? Maybe a Paradigm PW2200? How about Infinity?

Well, I've seen cheap Paradigm's (PDR8 and 10), but no 2200's.

The PW2200 seems to be a little out of my league pricewise...

Is it a lot better than the B&W?

The Pw2200 would be able to outgun the asw1000 by something like 3-5dBs. If you never need more output than the asw1000 can provide...then that's not much of an advantage of course. But you don't want to get the asw1000 and then be wishing you had those dBs a couple months down the road either :)

Is the same true of a 20-39 out gunning the pw2200? Does the Yamaha even hold a candle to these (including the B&W)? Should I just shut up and get the 20-39?
