I was considering purchasing this preamp. But....I read a lot of mixed reviews regarding whining & clicking
noises with the B&K Reference 50 preamp. Is there a problem/issue with this preamp and is it being addressd by B&K. I know they reduced the price by a $1000
But it's still a lot of cash to plunk down for a noisy preamp.

Does noise while playing DVD's, CD's, tuner ?

    B&K owners please advise

    Thanks

basically, it doesnt have a muting circuit while switching inputs. so, there can be some pops or clicks when switching inputs. purists believe that muting circuits can degrade the signal. in reality, it is a lengthened signal path because the signal does have to go through the muting circuit...

it wont happen when you are listening to music, only when switching. for $2K, i dont think you can beat it.

As Donnie said, it's blown way way way out of proportion. I have lived with the Ref 50 for about a year and didnt' even notice the sounds until I read about them here. For the money the Ref 50 simply cannot be beat.

Don't let prejudices (mine included) sway your decision, go out and audition the candidates you are considering and let your ears make your decision.

The 8k krell hts 7.1 makes a clicking noise when changing imputs too. I would consider it a characteristic of the a good processor and enjoy the thing[IMG]
