Was wondering if the pioneer 1014 would perform well with klipsch or axiom and if not, what are some suggestions for receivers under $500. (mainly HT use)
The 1014 will perform well with many speakers. The MCACC EQ settings can be overridden and, for example, you can save your custom EQ settings under Custom1 or Custom2. With such a flexible receiver, the 1014 is the best receiver for the indicated price range.
I also like Yamaha, but, for the money, getting the MCACC included with the 1014 puts it ahead of the competition.
If you can, you might consider purchasing the Axiom speakers and doing a 30-day evaluation of them to see what you think. If you don't like them, you'll just lose the shipping costs.
For the Klipsch Reference speakers, be careful to match the model with your tastes. The RF-35 for example, is a great, bassy speaker. However, it can be overkill if you also have some good subs to augument the bass. Plus, with the RF-35s, you might have less midrange response than the RF-25s, which feature smaller woofers, which could have a bigger impact on mid-bass response.
This is alittle off topic, but from getting out of the HTiB setup. Would the best thing to do is get the 1014 and upgrade speakers around that or could i keep the existing HTiB receiver (sony ktr-k502) and upgrade the speakers and purchasing the receiver after the center and fronts are setup/purchased?
