I just watched The Time Machine and couldn't believe how bad it was. The trailer made it look pretty good but that's what the trailer is supposed to do. What other films did you think were unimpressive but you thought the trailer was entertaining?

Unbreakable had a teaser/trailer that really sucked me in wanting to see more...however,the movie was so-so (Which makes me wonder about Signs...'cuz that one is doing the same thing as well).

I'll second The Time Machine and add Tomb Raider. God I wish they could have done better than that!

Agree with Planet of the Apes. Awesome trailer and a movie that I was very excited about all spring and summer.

Signs was a big letdown to me. The trailers really get you excited for a sci fi aliens come to earth movie, then I was completely let down when the credits rolled.

Reign of Fire. They made it out to be a fun monster movie. It was an unfun movie about two pissants with the monsters as supporting players.

I wonder about Spy Kids 2.
The 1st one had that family theme and the appreciation developed between the brother and sister, in addition to the effects and gags.
This one looks like 'lets throw the kids into a whole bunch of situations' It almost looks like a Jason and the Argonauts movie from the previews. I hope they don't ignore the underlying story and just have the kids be cute and battle one monster after another.

Jan de Bont's The Haunting had an effectively creepy trailer. ("This is the house..." or something like that.)
To say I consider the movie pure unadultered feces would be the understatment of July.
I also remember going "Oooh! Neat!" as I watched the trailer for the surreally retarded flick The Musketeer.

Steve: While the monsters are defineately a tribute to the Harryhausen effects (Harryhausen worked on Jason and the Agronauts as it happens... the comparison is very valid with those sword-fighting skelletons)

I face a delemma with that flick. Except for the ending, I really liked the first one (it being one of the few children's films I have on DVD). That said, I hate seeing kid's movies in the theaters because the audiences are so God awful. Too many kids in the same theater almost always equals horrible audience.

    Adam,
Basically the only time I can ever get to the movies, it to take the kids. Usually we only see the really good ones (Shrek, Monsters Inc., Spy Kids, Ice Age , Chicken Run ,Toy Story, HP etc) They dominate the DVD collection too. As long as their good I don't mind. The audiences have been hit or miss.
I love Harryhausen; I just hope they have those storylines that can reach the adults too. We'll see.

I thought the Godzilla trailed bit. I agree that the trailer for 'The Haunting' was a ton better than the movie.
I thought the MIB 2 trailer was pretty good - better than the movie (which didn't suck, just so-so)
