I am using a Denon AVR 5308 for hooking up all my old equipment and connecting it to my new Denon X8500. I am using HDMI 2 output from the 5308 to my X8500 Game HDMI input. This works for the video. I can hear the audio thru my headphones hooked up to my 5308, but how can I output my audio to my X8500 Game audio input ports? I was thinking of using Zone 2 audio outputs to the X8500 Game audio input ports, but then started wondering about the impedance mismatch and audio levels being too high from the Zone 2 ports. I have 7 pieces of hardware hooked up to my 5308 and the video connections work great. I just need a way to connect the audio up to the Game audio ports without violating any impedance problems or audio level problems. Can anyone provide any help?

I’m at a loss why you would want to do this. Receivers just aren’t intended to be connected to each other.

The X8500 only has limited number of inputs to accommodate my old equipment. The AVR 5308 is just another HDMI input to my X8500 and works great with video. I could use the audio out from the 5308 headphone jack to my X8500 Game audio input jacks, but then would have to keep the audio to the headphone jack stable to prevent audio saturation / distortion. Also, there is an impedance mismatch as well. I haven't had the nerve to hook it up yet to try until I can get confirmation from Denon or other sources that it can work. My 5308 also has up conversion software that takes composite / s-video / component video and converts it to 1080p. When I check my input to my Samsung 78" curved 4k tv it shows a 1080p input and the Samsung up converts that to 4k. The picture is OK for what I am using it for. I just need to solve the audio input problem. Thanks for your feedback!

I contacted Denon today and they walked me thru options to use on my 5308. None of them worked. I then asked them if I could use my headphone jack output from the 5308 to the X8500 Game analog audio jack inputs and their tech support said that I could, but needed to set my volume out so that my 8500 could then vary the volume to my speaker system. That worked so I am good to go on using my 5308 as a unique HDMI input to my 8500 to get the video and audio working together.
